Al Bernier has been a licenced Ham since 1990, and got involved with Canwarn in 1991 as a spotter. During the '92 season he became a Net Controller and has demonstrated his controller skills many times since. When the London Weather office closed down in early 1997, he became the Assistant Station Manager, and proceeded to train all the Net Controllers on the new Internet system at the London Central Firehall. Al also performs routine checks on the station and ensures that all equipment is working up to speed. He has proven himself to be a dedicated volunteer and a great supporter of CANWARN.
In December, 1997 Al took a well deserved early retirement from Bell Canada, after 31 years. Since then he continues to work with twisted pairs doing security alarm installations on a part-time basis. He's also the Assistant London A.R.E.S. Coordinator, and a Red Cross volunteer.
