Ozone Program

Ozone-depleting Substances Regulations, 1998: Regulatory Changes

Regulations Amending the Ozone-depleting Substances Regulations, 1998 came into effect January 1, 2001. Amendment highlights include:

  • phase-out of Halon 1011, with production and consumption ban by January 1, 2002
  • ban on HCFC trading with non-Parties to the Montreal Protocol as of January 1, 2004
  • phase-out of methyl bromide, with production and consumption ban by January 1, 2005
  • mandatory pre-notification of transit shipments
  • plus additional administrative requirements
